EDUTL 5901

Advanced English as a Second Language – 3 credit hours

EDUTL 5901 is designed to help graduate students develop advanced skills in academic writing. By the end of the course, students are expected to write polished essays that incorporate organizational patterns most frequently found in academic prose, such as in research reports and journal articles.  Examples of writing by students and professionals are analyzed and used as points of departure for writing. Closely related activities include coverage of grammatical points relevant to the types of essays students are expected to write and revise. In addition, we will focus on the use of sources in academic papers and what are the reasons for using sources and the rules for using them (the violation of these rules is often referred to as plagiarism).
